Social Committee

Dominic BorkelmansVice-President of ECE Students

"Let’s make it a year to remember!"

What will you be doing, exactly?

You will work with your peers on organizing educational and social events for the member base. Social events can include picnics, drinking nights, movie nights, and even small excursions. Activities regarding educational events can include inviting guest speakers for lectures, setting up workshops, and creating a small skill-based class. But it’s all up to you!

Who are we looking for?

No special skills are required. We are mainly looking for people who are passionate about creating a strong community and love throwing fun events. The perfect candidate would be an enthusiastic student who is organized, outgoing, and likes to take initiative. But don’t worry if this description does not fit you perfectly; if you apply we’ll have a short interview to see if there is a fit!

What do you get by joining the committee?

As a member of the social committee, you will get to meet many passionate students. Rest assured that your network will exponentially grow, both with new friends and more professional contacts. Besides that, you will develop useful skills. You will work on your collaboration, leadership, and time-management skills. But most importantly, you will be able to join all the fun events you and the rest of the team organize! There is nothing more satisfying than having a beer at a drinking night you organized.

The boring stuff...

  • You will be working with 5 other students and the Vice-President.
  • The committee will be split into a social team and an educational team, both consisting of 3 members; as a member of the committee, you will be able to switch teams multiple times throughout the year.
  • Both teams will have a project leader, allowing you to brush up on your leadership skills.
  • Being an active member is a year-long commitment, running until the end of the 2021/2022 academic year.
  • On a weekly basis, you can expect to work for about 5-8 hours per week on organizing events. Though this number depends fully on how crazy your team wants to get!
